Keypad Post

A friend had someone drive into her gate entry keypad post, cracking the weld seams at the bottom mounting bracket.

The repair for this was relatively simple, but the trick to learn in this instance is the method of repair.  Here I used TIG welding with ER316 SS fill rod for the welds to prevent rusting as had occurred in the previous design.  The photo above illustrates how the original design used a stick weld around the base of the 18-gauge post which eventually rusted out due to water accumulation.  The TIG repair welds were performed with remnants of helium gas I had left over from a party.  The welds were smooth and heat penetration was impressive!
